Conjunctivoplasty is a relatively new procedure done to correct conjunctival chalasis, which is redundant conjunctiva which moves around on the eye with lid movement that causes tearing, pain or discomfort and tired eyes. It may result from chronic dry eye or allergy related swelling with eventual stretching of this protective tissue. It is often not diagnosed leaving the person with chronic symptoms that can be eliminated with conjunctivoplasty. The procedure involves removing the redundant tissue and using tissue glue to secure a new membrane (amniotoic membrane). This results in nice tight conjunctiva which restores the normal comfort to the eye.
